Why You Should Always Know Who Gains and Loses

Something successful businessmen discover quickly is how to know who gains and who loses in all transactions. People’s actions are motivated by success. Success can be anything that they hold of value to them. By knowing who gains through their actions and who doesn’t will help you navigate the interactions you get into.

In order to know who is gaining in the situation at hand, you should first define what gaining means to the people around you. Gaining can be looking good in front of a manager, closing a sale, or achieving a step of a larger plan.

By knowing who gains and who loses, you know where your attention should be directed. You need to keep an eye out for the people who are consistently making gains. Ensure that their gains do not depend on yourself losing.  By knowing what success means to those around you, and whether or not they attain it, you enable yourself to strategize at a deeper level. You are then able to time your actions towards achieving your own success and preventing failure.

By analyzing how hungry the people around you are to make gains in achieving their goals, you can use their goals against them. Perhaps you can use their goals as bait to enforce action that is favorable towards the goals of your own.

In a situation when you want your children to clean their room, your natural inclination will be to utilize something they find value in and trade it for them cleaning their room. In most cases, their success in the situation is defined by treats or leisurely rewards. The case with adults is much the same with the meaning of success being the only thing that changes. Success now is defined to matter to the mind of an adult, while the method of achieving it changes little.

By bartering with what others find success in, you can achieve successful things of your own.

The ones who lose in a particular situation are valuable assets to have on your side. When somebody sympathizes with our situation, we tend to trust them a little bit more than average. Sympathize with those who lose the battles around you and motivate them to win the battles that mean something to you. Get them motivated to fight for something that you are motivated to win.

By analyzing the wins and losses of those around you, you will begin to take account of your own. You will begin with being conscious about your strategy in attaining success. You will know what works for others, the strategies winners employ, and what to avoid during specific moments of your life.

The end-goal of this exercise is being in tune with reason and how it drives the behaviors of those that you interact with. You will begin to know why the worlds looks like it does around you by reverse engineering it via the motivations and desires of others.
